2007.04.21 | Casey + Brad

Wednesday, May 30th, 2007

I met Casey when we shot her bridal portrait at Orton Plantation and Gardens in Brunswick County, NC. Casey is probably the most enthusiastic, young-at-heart bride I’ve worked with in a while! She never stops smiling, and she just has this energy about her. Her bridal session was in the top 3 most fun bridal sessions ever.

Casey and Brad got married in Kernersville, NC, and their reception was in the gorgeous Piedmont Club at the top of the BB&T building in downtown Winston-Salem.

Here are some of the images from their somewhat nutty, but totally elegant day!

Casey was one of the easiest and most fun brides I’ve ever worked with. Here are a few images from her bridal portrait session at Orton Plantation:

2007.04.14 | Svati + Chris, Greenville, NC

Thursday, May 3rd, 2007

You know what sucks? I wrote this giant blog post about this wedding, published it, and it disappeared. It’s gone! I’m so irritated! I don’t even know what I wrote. Lesson learned: save and continue editing. So *that’s* what that button is for.

OK, the gist of my post was that the wedding was absolutely stunning, Svati is the most beautiful bride EVER, Chris is darling, and they’re both doctors and both beautiful and yeah, I know.

I haven’t finished editing their wedding yet, but I did manage to put together their slideshow so that I could give them a sneak peek at the images. So! Check out the slideshow, and come back next week to read a much better written blog post about their wedding, and to get the link for their full wedding proofset.

And before I forget, a special thanks (again!) to Karen Simmons for making the ridiculously long drive up from Atlanta to shoot this wedding with me! Karen, you rock my world.

Congratulations Svati and Chris!

they want to hear me talk.

I am heading to St Cloud Minnesota this weekend for the Capture Your Success ‘07 Herff-Jones Professional Finishing Seminar. That’s a mouthful!

A few months ago, I got an email from the organizers of this event asking me to be a speaker. After a lot of nervous consideration, I agreed and got to work figuring out what I would talk about. This is my first speaking engagement in the photography world, and I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t a little bit nervous. Guys, they have me scheduled for NINETY MINUTES. That’s right. Watch the movie Cars. That’s how long I’ll be talking.

Those of you who know me personally know I can talk for 90 minutes without taking a breath, but that’s when I’m rambling on about weddings or life or how much I want to marry Eddie Vedder. At this seminar, I’ll be talking about my approach to weddings – from the initial consultation through the actual shooting and delivery, and my style and personality and how it meshes so well with my clients. You know, *easy* stuff like that.

<tiny bit of hyperventilation goes here>

I’m told there will be about 75 attendees. That’s not so bad. I organize groups that big at weddings all the time. I can do this. Right?

So I’ll be out of town until late Tuesday May 8th. If you don’t hear from me, that’s why. Wish me luck! I’ll report back next week after I’m back and thoroughly embarassed.

2007.04.06 | Kishshana + Terrence, Savannah, GA

Thursday, May 3rd, 2007

I don’t even know how to begin talking about Kishshana and Terrence. I met Kish almost two years ago when she was planning the original version of her wedding. Plans changed… and changed again… and again… again… yeah, it was getting silly. But during all the planning and confusion, Kish and I became great friends. She’s absolutely nuts, like me, and we can spend hours on the phone together talking about anything at all.

So she finally got the plans together for an elopement in Savannah.

Word to the wise: if you’re planning an elopement, don’t tell anyone!

Within a couple weeks of the planned getaway it had turned into a fullscale wedding – dress, flowers, cake, reception, everything! So her vision changed a bit, but I think it really turned out amazing, and I know everyone who was there had a great time watching Kish and Terrence finally tie the knot.

They got married at Fragrance Gardens in one of the bazillion little gardeny park things in Savannah. It was so pretty – an enclosed garden with stucco walls and wrought iron gates, total Savannah feel. Live oaks, spanish moss, the whole nine. After the ceremony everyone headed to the restaurant for the dinner reception, and I was meeting the newlyweds down at the waterfront for pictures. Except the entire city of Savannah was under construction and every human being that lives within a five hundred mile radius of Georgia was in town for… well, I guess to hang out with the construction workers, I dunno. Maybe Spring Break had something to do with it. Nevertheless, it took me an eternity to find a parking spot and get shooting again, but once we got back into picture mode I realized that Kish and Terrence are MADE for this stuff. They were naturals, it’s rare to find couples who just *know* what you’re talking about when you give them vague, lame directions. I loved photographing them. Hopefully they’ll get me up there to shoot their family portraits soon, hint, hint.

2007.02.24 | Courtney + Josh, Wilmington NC

Thursday, May 3rd, 2007

Courtney and Josh. OK, first thing you need to know about these two is that they let me talk them into going to the carnival for their engagement session. We started at the beach, got soaked by the waves on probably the coldest November day EVER, and then ran off to the carnival like kids. It was tons of fun, but I couldn’t feel my feet the whole time. Can you say “hypothermia?” I knew you could.

Fast forward to the wedding day. I was fortunate enough to have my friend and colleague, Karen Simmons, drive all the way up from Atlanta to shoot this with me. We had a blast. We started at the Holiday Inn Sunspree for the getting ready. This is always a great hotel for the pre-wedding festivities – every room I’ve ever shot in has an ocean view, and the rooms are light and roomy. Anyway, can I just tell you – Courtney and her family are my kinda people. Her mom? What an incredible woman. Witty, sarcastic, and brash… and gorgeous to boot. Everyone in the room was cracking jokes, making my job of catching happy families sooo much easier than when everyone’s serious or nervous. So we had a great time.

The service was at the Temple of Israel in downtown Wilmington, the oldest Jewish house of worship in the state of North Carolina. It was my first time shooting there, and I’m so glad I finally got the opportunity – it’s beautiful, a pleasure to photograph in, and the people were beyond friendly. We did about a thousand formal group shots before the service, in some kind of crazy record time. All laughs and smiles, the way it oughtta be. I really can’t say enough for the families in this wedding.

On to Bluewater Grill for the reception! Great food, lots and lots of dancing, a terrifically energetic hora… and a lot of joyful tears.

The wedding was expertly coordinated by the fantastic team at A Carolina Wedding, and the entertainment was provided by DJ America, who always does a wonderful job of keeping the party hopping and not sounding like a cheeseball.

I hope you enjoy viewing their slideshow as much as I enjoyed working with this awesome couple!
