OK, I’ll admit. The bio on my website is a little vague. It’s intentional, I hate writing about myself!
I’ve tried to come up with a few paragraphs about me, stuff that people want to know. You know, like how long I’ve been in business (since 2001), how many weddings I’ve shot (billions and billions), how tall I am (5′7″), my sign (Libra), what kind of gear I use (Canon), and whether I’ll be in business next year (yes).
But it’s all so BORING!
I could talk a little bit about the sentimental parts of my job – I do love what I do, and I hope it shows. I cry at every father/daughter dance, sometimes I cry during the vows, and I almost always walk away from these events feeling like I’ve just added another set of wonderful people to my growing family. I get to share in these memories with people who were strangers before that day. It’s kind of an amazing job, if you think about it.
Every reception I’m at, someone says something like “Hey Camera Girl, you’re so lucky to be able to party every weekend and make lots of money doing it!” It’s hard not to bristle at the notion that a wedding photographer’s job is *easy* (or that we’re partying with the guests!) – but yes, I am fortunate that my talents have brought me to such a fun and meaningful job.
I don’t really know how to better introduce myself to you. I’m a wedding photographer. I have a wonderful little girl named Ellie (but I’m more likely to refer to her as “Miss Bean” or “the bean”), and I live in a cute little town near the coast of North Carolina. I travel extensively for weddings and other assignments, and I love the travel almost as much as I miss the bean when I’m on the road. I do word puzzles for fun. I don’t have the attention span to read a novel, but I spend hours with a blank piece of paper and a pen, waiting for inspiration to write something of my own.
My clients come from everywhere. I’ve worked with art directors, advertising executives, pharmaceutical reps, teachers, shoe salesmen, doctors, attorneys, other photographers, actors, models, musicians, chemists, housekeepers, dancers, furniture manufacturers, and auto mechanics. I’ve shot weddings that totaled six figures, and weddings that were potluck, backyard events. I’ve photographed couples in downtown alleys, at the United States Capitol Building, in the ocean, on a boat, in the woods, at farms and barns and sprawling country estates, at high dollar resorts, in restaurants.
All of these couples had at least one thing in common: they trusted me to capture their wedding days honestly, beautifully, and with as little direction as possible. They saw in my work and my personality something that they wanted for their own wedding imagery. Every time a couple chooses me for their wedding, I feel privileged. I’ve been tasked with the immense job of accurately portraying every moment of a day that has taken months, sometimes years to plan. For some couples, it’s the day they’ve been dreaming of since childhood. To be entrusted with this responsibility is an incredible honor.
This is me, as a wedding photographer.
Otherwise, I’m just a flaky girl with bold glasses, wild hair, a goofy laugh, and a terrible habit of talking when I should shut up.
If there’s anything else you’d like to know, please give me a shout!
