Daufuskie Island is an incredible place. It’s right off the coast of Hilton Head Island, north of Savannah, and it is accessible only by ferry from Hilton Head. The island has a rich history, and surprisingly has not always been a “remote” destination for golfers and equestrians.
The island is heavily wooded, surrounded by water, with manicured golf courses that butt up to wild and woodsy cemeteries, and marshy areas where you’re SURE you’ll see alligators (but you don’t, because you’re Charo and you never get to see one in the wild). The resort, spa, and other modern manmade buildings are all lovely and fit into the landscape so well. We had a wonderful time trekking through the woods and dirt roads, finding old headstones and spotting dolphins in the bay. It’s like time stands still, a little, on Daufuskie Island. It’s maybe my very favorite wedding spot.
Melissa and Derek’s wedding fell easily into the atmosphere of Daufuskie. It was a laid back affair, but still so elegant and timeless. The bridesmaids and groomsmen all looked like they were fresh out of a magazine, and no one stopped smiling or laughing for even a minute. It was family, friends, love, memories, and REALLY GREAT FOOD, all wrapped into one beautiful day. Seriously, the food was amazing. So was the decor, her Vera Wang gown (yay!), the setting, the ballroom, everything was incredible.
Congratulations Melissa and Derek!!! I can’t wait to see what images you choose for the album!!!
